Utvok - Day Eight

I had a bit of a rough night myself...woke up at 4:00AM and it was super bright outside...I had a killer headache, probably the beginnings of a migraine...took a couple Advil and a couple Tylenol and then curled up on the couch in the family room area...slept there until about 7:30AM when Barb and Mom woke up. I decided to warm up a bit and continue to nurse my head, so I went into Mom's bed upstairs so I wouldn't wake up my roomate, Nancy :)

As it turned out, I woke up again around 10:40AM! We were planning on resting today and just staying at the house, so I wasn't missing anything by sleeping :) Nancy was still sleeping too so I didn't feel like a complete lazy-bones!

We met the hosts today. Kursten and Kjell are the owners that rent a couple houses here on the hillside...they live just next door. They gave us a tour of their store/bakery behind this house as well as the little museum under our house. Apparently we are living in a heritage home, there was a family with eight daughters that lived here before the current owners...quite the stories we heard from Kursten and Kjell today!

The most excitement coming from our house today was the final game at Wimbledon. Nancy is the only tennis fan in the house but she did get us into the game, taught us some of the basic rules and common phrases :)

She couldn't sit still at the beginning!

As you can see she was quite animated and was thoroughly entertaining for the rest of us watching her! and the game ;)

Barb couldn't keep her eyes off the TV! Joking...she's the one reading her book! Mom was trying to follow along but had more questions about the game than understanding ;) We tried to be as interested as Nancy, but I'm afraid we failed miserably!

Several cocktails later we realized it was 7PM and we should work on putting our dinner together! Technically it was June and Lynn's turn to be in the kitchen but June put everything together...we have discovered that meat is a little more challenging in the grocery stores here...there is mostly pork, smoked, fresh and cooked...

Tonight we had pork chops...June was able to bread them with a coating of eggs and 'found' breadcrumbs (I imagine they were left by the previous renters) they were unopenned in case you were cringing :) Potatoes are definitely the staple item here and we had some broccoli too! Simple but delicious nontheless

After dinner, even though it was 9:00PM...we started a game of Phase 10, Nancy, Barb and June haven't played before, but after a brief intro and overview of the rules etc. they were ready to play!

As it turns out, Auntie June is a natural...she had no trouble with the hands we explained might be more challenging and before long she was competing for first place! Barb was ready to quit not long after we started, but we did explain to her that she wasn't allowed ;) Nancy was busy telling us it was her bedtime...which if you know Nancy, isn't possible as she is the last one to bed every night!

The game did drag on a bit...I was stuck on Phase7 I believe for at least 6 hands! After a strategic 'switch' of cards between Nancy and I when the others weren't looking...and about another hour or so...I put us all out of our misery and won the game !!! It was just minutes before midnight! An evening full of laughs for sure...we'll see what tomorrow brings, until then goodnight!
