Utvik - Day Seven

So we hit the road after a leisurely morning and breakfast...Mom had to wake me up around 10AM so I wouldn't miss the Hotel breakfast! The Best Western breakfast doesn't compare to the Thon Hotel chain or the rooms for that matter....just FYI for those of you wondering!

We had a few windy roads and lots of awesome tunnels to drive through...the roads are super narrow, so youu need to be fast and/or extra careful to beat the car coming or pass the car or more over! When the big tour busses are coming I pull right over!!!

We took a great fast ferry across the water once we made it to Lote, this ferry takes 10 minutes or less to cross and cost us $120 kroner..

We made a couple stops along the way to take photos...gotta love a car full of women that will actually want to stop on a road trip! We must have pulled over three or four times in a hour trip this morning!!!

My rental car had Nancy and Barb and Mom's rental car had Auntie June...we caravanned a little and met at major pull out spots before town and when we hit a town to buy some groceries at...we also decided to grab a lunch here...the stores were closing around 2PM...I guess that's normal for Saturdays here...but we grabbed a lunch before our grocery shop at a great little Pizzeria.

Barb and Nancy shared a pizza...

June picked this yummy looking salad...

Mom and I were bad and ordered burers and fries...I was thrilled that they added a salad too! They season their fries here and they are very tasty!

So after lunch we needed to grab our groceries for the next couple days at least (seeing as our grocery store was going to be closed)...Us three girls did the shopping...it's my town to pay for stuff so I'm pulling my crecdit card out for the week here :)

Finding food is tougher than you'd think when you are in a foreign country! Meat and chicken for example here, has been challenging to find a lot of...we are going to shop more Monday so we'll see what we find in a different town!

Once we made our way to Utvik, where the vacation house we are staying at for this week, and asked for further direction from a local gal at the store. She was kind enough to drive and have us follow her there...we had photos of the place printed out so once she directed us to the right street we could compare as the house numbers weren't visably noticable, or even there at all actually :)

As you can see...this is one spectacular place!

The deck is huge and has the most incredible view of the entire fjord and village of Utvik...not much to this area at all in terms of activity but everyone stops to chat and is very friendly. There is one tiny little grocery store on the Main Street that works in a pinch...we will need to make a bigger shop on Monday seeing as everything is closed on Sundays.

The view from the upper deck is rather beautiful....
It's a cloudy day so a bit hazy for scenery shots but you get the idea!

The kitchen is very roomy and is very well equipt with dishes and cooking pots etc. I am in love with the sink counter combo area...the entire counter is made of stainless steel, then it runs into the washing sink and then the next sink is a much deeper one with a built in drying rack...love that the stainless steel is all one piece, so not seams at all!!!

This is one of the four bedrooms...room to sleep to two people and hold their bags of stuff too!

Here's another room for two...little tiny but sufficient anyways!
this is the top of the stirs...loads of room and a giant storage room at the end of the hall too!...

This little area has all antique items...amazing that she is trusting enough to keep the charm of the house intact with all of these interesting artifacts everywhere!

Huge dining room area and fabulous view!!!

Plenty of room for lots of guests in this family room space...and lots of seats...the view is of the water and of the neighbouring farm too.

This evening a German cruise line passed through...must be headed to Bergen through the nordefjord...we have a schedule for the cruise ships to refer to in our house...just to be sure we don't head into their ports on the same days! Apparently it's a nightmare in town when the cruise ships stop as you can imagine in these tiny towns!

Dinner wasn't until later tonight as we are still getting used to the daylight...we forget to get on eating at a decent time because it's so light out! We did enjoy a nightcap and the view on the deck once we had unpacked, set up the beds with linens and put away what groceries we had packed :)

Barb, Nancy and I were on the dinner detail...we made chicken, roasted potatoes and beets and a nice salad on the side.

I think we didn't finish until around 9:30PM tonight!

I thought I'd share our 11:30PM evening view from the back deck...

Signing off, apparently it's bedtime...even if it is still light out!!!
