Rome - Day 6

It's Day 6 and we are in Rome! Today we are going into Vatican City! I was very excited to see it and I wasn't disappointed. Leading up to the walls and entry though I really enjoyed seeing all the trees in bloom.

It is interesting how certain things work, take a look and see how they deal with their trash...bins on the street and recycling etc. It is nice to see that they have recycle bins along the streets in town. In Paris and London it was very difficult to find garbage cans while we were walking around.

Our guide today is Franco. He was very fun, had a great personality and of course they are all full of historic information :) He is always saying 'follow Franco'...we can see his flag in the crowds so we won't loose him.

This is the museum area leading up to the entrance to the Vatican ...

Here's the entrance to the church, the doors open for the Pope only, everyone else enters from the side doors...can you see all this detail?

I think what I find the most amazing about what we have seen inside the Vatican is the fact that it is all hand made! I mean seriously...simply amazing to imagine all the men that sat and carved such beautiful intricate designs on all the surfaces...add to that the painters...unbelievable talent and all still in such amazing condition!

Generations of bibles all safely tucked away...

Tile floors are always beautiful to see...so intricate and in such great condition still...

Gold, paintings, detail, detail, detail...on the ceiling!

The view from here...looking up and still seeing even more...so much detail, I could just stand and stare for so much longer than we were able to...this is not the trip to stand and stare...go, go, go!

Ok so the last photo, cause you're probably bored with all of this...is one of the ceiling in the museum area on our way out of the Basilica..this is all painted...it looks like its 3 dimensional but it is all painted...very well done!

More adventures tomorrow, Buonanotte.
