London - Day 2

We made it to Day Two...and our male student found his passport!!!

Well not him exactly, but the airport had it turned in and it was being held at the Air Canada desk at the Airport...so one of our teachers and the student had to go to the airport to retrieve it...so we are once again one group and will be heading off to the station tomorrow at 6AM to get on our train to Paris!

Today we had a special London tour guide, Jason, who led us around the downtown area. We stopped in at the St. Paul's Cathedral first off...took photos and grabbed a coffee at Starbucks.

Next we were off to see the changing of the guards at Buckingham Palace. Very interesting and hundreds of people taking in the sights at the Palace...the Queen's flag was flowing so she was there..that's all you see :)

After that we headed towards Big Ben on our way to see Windsor Palace...this is a whirlwind trip and we 'saw' Big Ben but didn't get out or stop. There is so much to see and do in England, just the city of London and surrounding areas are all lovely. Definitely worth another trip to England so we can sit and enjoy the pubs, restaurants and museums.

Windsor Palace was beautiful and we really enjoyed all the grand rooms...so extravagant and amazing to see all of the tapestries and oil paintings in all the rooms and galleries there. I've picked up a coffee table book as usual, so I can be refreshed with the beautiful surroundings as we were NOT allowed to take any photos while under the castle roof.

I was really impressed with the St. George's Chapel at the Windsor Palace. Apparently the Queen attends two services there each year, Easter and Christmas Day. There are so many tombs there from previous Royals...I'd list them off and tell you but I can't remember for the life of me! Good thing they had a coffee table book for me to purchase with all those random facts and wonderful photos!

There are even guards and guard changes at Windsor Palace...we were able to witness that there too!!

Off for fish and chips for dinner tonight...pretty good, but I have to admit that the fish and chips at home were better ;) Right after dinner we met up with a super creepy dude and he did an animated evening walking tour of Jack the Ripper!

We found it funny and educational...he was setting the creepy tone very well as he was in character the entire evening. Lots of walking around the city in the dark and I really loved all the tiny original lanes and alleys we found. You could really imagine what it was like living in that time.

So much to see and do today that I'm just tired and ready for bed!
